In the 1980s, the Federal government blocked the purchase of computer equipment outside Brazil. Luiz Carlos Burti obtained special authorization from the federal government's special secretary for information technology and began to import Macintosh® computers for his printing business. He was an early enthusiast for desktop publishing and his was the first company to operate an off-set printer with infra-red ovens. It lead Brazil in working with matte black and was the first printer company in Latin America to integrate the prepress system by linking scanners, a high resolution electronic retouching system, desktop publishing, and open prepress interface (OPI) programs.
